Comicon – searching for your inner-Geek

Vulcan Costume

Spring is in the air and all the young ladies have only one thing on their mind: Comicon. There are dozens of booths and attractions that are created to dazzle the senses and spark interest. This blogger and cosplay enthusiast will be in attendance is sunny downtown Phoenix, Arizona. I’ll be joined by people of all ages and from all walks of life.

This year the media guests include: Sean Astin (Lord of the Rings), Billie Piper (Doctor Who), Ralph Macchio (The Karate Kid), Lee Majors and James Marsters. The panels, the shopping, food trucks, beer garden and activities all create a fun pop culture event.

It’s time to embrace your inner villain, hero or character and try to dress for the job you want (and not the job you have, because when I did that at my regular job, I got sent home; I guess they don’t like cat woman).

This year, let the fun begin and join the community of cosplay starting with finding the right costume. I’ve decided to find my logical side with a Vulcan costume from True Corset paired with some minor accessories like pointy ears. It all pulled together beautifully and added a sexy kick to the idea that Captain James T. Kirk would have definitely approved of.

The beauty of a corset-based costume is the versatility that can be created with each piece, paired in a variety of ways can be worn differently extending their functionality. The natural confidence that corsets create, and the quality of the garments, make it stand out from the typical off-the- rack that has been seen and done a thousand times over.

Final Countdown to Romance

The final day of fun, creative and versatile looks for Valentine’s Day. The most important is to find what will work best for you and what expresses your true personality.  I am finishing this holiday in my personal favorite Valentine’s Day corset, this darling ruby red corset with black ribbon detail.

Out for coffee and Tea

Some of the most wonderful relationships start with a simple cup of tea or coffee. Dress up the occasion and try to capture some of the old Hollywood glamour or dress it down and bring some sexiness to even the most basic of activities. This Pink Gingham corset is paired with a beautiful black pencil skirt, black bolero and sparkly heels.

*Hint – make sure that your pencil skirt is fitted, but you can still move in them. Nothing is worse then being invited to sit down, only to realize that you cannot.

A bit of fun for a special night with the one you love. You can use your own unique style and personality to make it a night to remember. I have paired a beautiful black and red brocade corset with black fishnets, some frilly knickers and heels

*Hint: wearing the frilly knickers over the fishnets allows the sweet details to be visible.

Corsets give you the ability to find the uniquely you look that creates a mood all of its own. The world of make-believe is at your fingertips no matter what world you want to create. This look paired a black chain corset, with a fun petticoat, down the rabbit-hole striped over the knee socks, with beautiful black sparkly shoes.

Hint: Metal or sequin details on any clothing should be treated with care and caution. Accidently clipping an ankle can hurt you or someone else.

Pillow Fort Movie Night

A fun adventure for Valentine’s Day; the pillow fort. Build with what you can, pick a movie, your favorite snack, and a little something to set the mood. This brings the sweet memories of make believe and adds an adult twist. I paired this sweet pink gingham corset with a white petticoat and thigh-highs.

*Hint: When planning a romantic evening try and keep perspective on your environment. A small enclosed pillow fort may not be conducive to wearing heels. Planning well for a few moments can help create an unforgettable evening.

Classic Black Leather

Adding some fun and softness to your look can often mean you explore different textures and genres to create something all your own. I paired a black leather corset with a red tutu and floral tights for a new twist on a classic staple to any wardrobe.

*Hint: Leather items do not breathe. A light dust of baby power can assist with comfort, if you will be in a place that might get warm like a concert venue.

Creating your own statement with your look can be both fun and challenging. I paired the beautiful pattern of this black and silver corset with the fun bright pink of the tutu, thus creating a look that is both eye-catching and whimsical. You can dress up or down this type of look and use it for a myriad of situations. As long as you feel sexy and confident, then it is the right look for you.

*Hint: Please always check in a mirror when wearing tulle. Tulle in a single layer is see-through. Layered, it can become opaque quickly. Always check in a mirror to ensure that you are not showing more than you intended.

An unexpected surprise for your sweetie is to don something a bit fun and flirty as a surprise. This Rose and Skull corset is a good balance of sweet and spicy paired with red fishnets and black heels.

*Hint: Make sure that you put your full fishnet tights on prior to lacing-up your corset. It’s very difficult to tuck the top of your tights in if you wait until after.

An evening out is the recipe for great conversation and laughs. It starts with having a great look that makes you feel your best. No matter what type of bar or pub you choose for the evening, you can dress up or down your corset to match. You want an aura of mystery and fun that corsets can offer. This red and black brocade corded corset is paired with black skinny jeans, a versatile black bolero jacket and sequined heels.

*Hint: Check before you go out that your lower body can move freely sitting and standing. If you are going to be in an establishment where you might be sitting, ensure your clothes don’t gap when you sit and that you can actually sit down. I recommend keeping the laces on the lower half of your corset a bit looser to ensure movement and a little flexibility. You don’t always need to tight-lace to look beautiful.
